THE ADVICE OF HABIB HASSAN ASH-SHATIRI IN RAISING CHILDREN AT THE END OF TIMES
Habib Aydarus said that his father, Habib Hassan bin Abdullah Ash-Shatiri, would often remind him and his siblings to walk on the path of their pious predecessors; it’s easy to arrive at Allah’s pleasure when one takes a path that is tried and tested. One of the great challenges Habib Hassan saw in many places outside of preserved environments like Tarim, Hadramawt, is that children challenge the authority of their parents when they are put on a trodden path. Many would make the following du’a between azan and iqamah:
اَللّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لِيْ فِيْ أَوْلاَدِيْ وَلاَ تَضُرُّهُمْ وَوَفِّقْهُمْ في طَاعَتِكَ وَارْزُقْنِيْ بِرَّهُمْ
Meaning : O Allah, bless my offspring and do not burden them, and make them compliant with obedience and grant me their filial piety.
… but, over and above the aforementioned du’a, Habib Hassan is known to add the following to his own du’a after azan:
اَللّهُمَّ اجْعَلْ أَوْلاَدَنَا فِي أَيْدِيْنَا وَلا تَجْعَلْنَا فِي أَيْدِيْهِمْ
Meaning : O Allah, make our children in our hands and don’t make us in their hands – meaning to protect us from their disobedience.
An apt du’a for parents raising children at the end of times. May Allah raise the rank of Habib Hassan bin Abdullah Ash-Shatiri and preserve his offsprings.
